JUNE MEETING – A FIELD TRIP TO NOMADES!
The June meeting was held on Monday, June 28, at 6:00
PM at NOMADES ~ At Home with the World, located
at 10700 Corrales Road NW, Suite C, in Corrales. The shop
was open that day from 10 – 6PM so members could come early and browse the store
for purchases and vote for their favorite June Bead Challenge projects! A group of members met at the Flying Star,
located in the same shopping center, for dinner at 5PM.
Nomades owners, Linda and Mamdou, have been in business since 2007. Mamadou often
travels to South and West Africa collecting pieces that can fill your home with treasures
from around the world.
There was a presentation on African trade beads and
silver metal work presented by invited guests as well as a presentation on
Fabrics from around the world.
DIRECTIONS TO NOMADES and THE FLYING STAR: From I-25, go West on
Alameda to Corrales Road and take a right.
The Flying Star and Nomades are on the right in a small shopping
center.


Geri Verble: Geri (in the black top) worked for the Peace Corps and shares her love of African beads with the group.

Akeem Ayanni - Spoke of drumming
and drum making and taught us songs from his homeland.
Akeem is from a highly respected family of drummers and drum makers and he can proudly trace this folk art in his family through nine generations.

Linda and Mamamdou - Owners of Nomades who graciously offered to host this great evening!

Moussa Albaka- Spoke of his trade in Silver
Metal-smith and taught us the nuances of Tuareg silver.
Moussa is from Niger, Africa, and as a metal-smith he designs gorgeous jewelry using sterling silver, Tuareg silver and semi-precious stones.
